DYI Modular Safe Rooms Storm Shelters

Multipurpose Uses

As Storm Shelter

The main purpose of these units is to protect their occupants from violent and severe weather conditions such as tornados and hurricanes.

As A Panic Room

Having a modular safe room in one’s home can help families provide increased safety to elders, young children, and other vulnerable family members in the unfortunate event of a burglary, home invasion, terrorism incident, or other unforeseen threat.

In such cases, just get inside the safe room; lock the door and call or wait for help.

All the units are bulletproof and can defend against class three shotguns and handguns (.38, 9 mm, .380, etc.).

According to Safe Guard The World Security Company, two million home burglaries are reported each year in the United States, with a home burglary occurring every 13 seconds.

Used As Safe Vault

In addition to offering personal protection, these units can be use as safe vaults or confident spaces for securing weapons, jewelry, or other important type of valuable household and business belongings. Locking feature: The shelters come with a Commercial Keypad lock –Grade Level 1. This is a security rating approval for building hardware from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This rating (Grade Level 1) offers maximum security for exterior and interior doors. The lock functions with both, the keypad feature and a standard key.

This safe room is intended to be installed on existing homes (any room, closet, under the stairs, and or in the garage) on a concrete slab with 4” of thickness or more. If you have carpet or hardwood floor, please ask for 6” L anchor bolts. However, the shelters can also be installed on new houses after the concrete foundation is cured, and before the framing goes up. The best place for the unit will be a hidden closet in your master bedroom, under the stairs, or in a closet in your garage.

As a protective measure, our storm safe rooms are grounded by installing a cooper rod. We have never heard of anyone being struck by a thunder while being inside a storm shelter. However, if you must use the shelter during a thunderstorm, stand in the middle avoiding any contact with the metal structure.

Our modular shelters are equipped with four heavy-duty lock pins that fasten the door to its frame to ensure your safety. They come in a variety of sizes. Our most common stock sizes are 3’ x 5’, 3’ x 7’, 4’ x 6’ and 4’ x 8’. If you have a large family, and or need more room, Torshel can custom build a 6’ x 8’. The standard height of our shelter is 6’ 4”. Additional height is available up to 8’ for an additional fee.

How To Order

Torshel’s modular storm shelters come in panels of 12” and 6” wide. Measure the area where you want the shelter to be installed; make sure it is wide, long, and tall enough. Order your shelter at least 10 inches less in width and length to allow space to install the anchors and bolts. Pay special attention to the door location. Our doors are located 6” from the corner of the shelter. Or preferable, take pictures and draw the area on a paper, and send it to us via e-mail, so we can provide you with one or more options in sizes.
